Assistant Curator, Avian (2 Years Contract)

About the role

Assist the Curator in the daily management of the avian collection, ensuring high standards of animal care and welfare. Oversee avian operations, including supervising staff, interns and volunteers, and managing work areas and habitats. Support acquisitions, administrative tasks, budgeting, and the development of care and safety protocols. Liaise with veterinary, horticulture and facilities teams, and conduct or supervise research and breeding programmes. Serve as Avian Duty Officer on weekends and public holidays, handling incidents and ensuring operational continuity.

Requirements

• Minimum 6 years of experience in a zoological or equivalent animal care setting
• Proven experience in avian husbandry and management
• Bachelor's degree in Animal Care, Animal Science, or related field is highly desirable
• Strong organisational, communication, and people management skills
• Ability to lead, train, and develop staff
• Willingness to work weekends and public holidays as Avian Duty Officer
