About the role
This role leads the operational, administrative and business functions of the Department of Pathology at a university hospital, working closely with the Head of Pathology, clinical leaders and corporate teams. It suits an experienced operations or healthcare manager who can turn departmental priorities into workable plans and drive service, workforce and digital improvements.
What you'll do
Plan, coordinate and manage the performance of pathology services
Track service demand, capacity and operational risks
Set up governance, escalation and reporting arrangements
Support business continuity and service recovery planning
Drive improvements in quality, efficiency and service reliability
Develop departmental strategic plans and annual workplans
Work with pathologists and laboratory leadership on priorities, outcomes and resources
Define and monitor performance indicators, milestones and organisational risks
Review performance trends and recommend corrective actions
Prepare management reports, business cases and executive papers
Support enhancement of systems such as EPIC, NBS and Digital Pathology
Lead workflow redesign and digital transformation projects
Support new technology implementation and refresh initiatives
Use data and technology to improve operations and user experience
Coordinate stakeholder engagement for informatics projects
Manage direct and indirect reports
Set clear performance expectations and accountability structures
Develop staff capability and leadership capacity
Support succession planning and talent development
Foster collaboration, service excellence and continuous improvement
Lead workforce planning and deployment of administrative and operational resources
Strengthen workforce engagement, communication and team effectiveness
Drive productivity and workforce optimisation
Support capital and operating budget planning
Monitor departmental financial performance and expenditure
Manage operational aspects of charging and billing
Support fee reviews and benchmarking
Provide financial analyses for decision-making
Lead procurement and non-procurement submissions
Prepare approval papers and governance documentation
Manage vendor relationships and contract performance
Ensure compliance with procurement policies and institutional requirements
Monitor procurement timelines, budgets and deliverables
Establish project scope, governance, implementation plans, milestones and accountabilities
Lead productivity, process redesign, automation and service-improvement projects
Coordinate clinical, operational, corporate and vendor stakeholders during implementation
Manage project risks, dependencies, resources and change readiness
Track project delivery, benefits realisation and post-implementation outcomes
Represent NUH Pathology in institutional and NUHS workgroups
Perform admin duties and assist the admin team when needed
Carry out other duties assigned by sup
Requirements
Recognised degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Management, Operations Management or a related discipline
At least 10 years of relevant experience
Minimum of 8 years in leadership or managerial roles
Healthcare sector experience is an advantage
Demonstrated experience in operations, workforce, finance, projects or service transformation
Strong leadership, analytical and problem-solving abilities
