About the role

Join the Energy Research Institute @ NTU as a Research Associate specialising in hydrodynamics and computational fluid dynamics. You will provide technical expertise and research support for fluid flow systems used in marine, offshore and renewable energy work, with a focus on offshore structures, floating systems, coastal processes and hybrid renewable energy platforms. This role suits a researcher with a master's degree and a few years of CFD or marine engineering experience who enjoys both simulation and hands-on experimentation.

What you'll do

Carry out advanced CFD research and analysis covering tidal flow, wind dynamics, hydrodynamics, fluid–structure interaction and offshore environmental systems

Build, validate and apply numerical and experimental models for tidal energy, wind flow, marine structures and coastal engineering

Design and run controlled laboratory experiments such as wave tank testing, aerodynamic and hydrodynamic flow studies, flow visualisation and sensor-based measurements

Plan and carry out field experiments including in-situ tidal and wind measurements, environmental monitoring and data collection with sensing and instrumentation systems

Run simulations and performance analysis under varying conditions such as turbulence, extreme waves, wake effects, biofouling and climate-induced marine conditions

Analyse CFD and experimental results to support system optimisation, performance improvement and engineering design changes

Work with multidisciplinary teams across mechanical, marine, environmental and energy engineering on integrated research and technology development

Prepare technical documentation, simulation reports, research publications, project proposals, patents and presentations

Requirements

Master's degree in mechanical, ocean, civil or marine engineering or a closely related field with a specialisation in hydrodynamics, fluid mechanics, CFD or offshore engineering
At least 2–5 years of relevant research or industry experience in CFD, hydrodynamics, fluid flow analysis or offshore/marine engineering
Strong grasp of marine hydrodynamics, wave–current interactions, aerodynamic and hydrodynamic principles, offshore environmental conditions and numerical modelling methods
Proficiency with CFD and simulation tools such as ANSYS Fluent, ANSYS CFX, STAR-CCM+, OpenFOAM or similar
Programming and data analysis skills using MATLAB, Python or similar scientific computing tools
Experience with laboratory experiments such as wave tank testing, flow visualisation, instrumentation setup, sensor integration and data acquisition
