This role sits with GovTech, the agency leading Singapore's Smart Nation and public sector digital transformation efforts. You will join a product team building technology for public good, working with growing independence on features that span several components. It suits an engineer who can balance delivery speed with code quality and who enjoys mentoring peers.
What you'll do
Build proofs of concept and features across multiple modules, seeking guidance when needed
Make trade-offs between performance, security and maintainability based on context
Write and review code with clarity and maintainability in mind
Expand test coverage such as unit and integration tests to support key workflows and reduce flakiness
Clear small pockets of technical debt within your domain
Suggest improvements that lift product performance or team velocity
Contribute to CI/CD processes and deployment pipelines with the team
Help resolve moderate incidents and escalate complex issues when needed
Develop a deeper understanding of your product's architecture and dependencies
Apply secure coding and compliance principles, integrating platform standards
Plan and complete moderately scoped tasks independently, from design to delivery
Flag risks early
Follow through on the impact of shipped work, such as metrics, bugs or feedback
Troubleshoot and fix small production issues proactively
Seek and apply feedback on code and working style
Take part in team knowledge-sharing such as demos, retros or guilds
Give constructive code review feedback to peers and junior engineers
Help teammates get unblocked or navigate tools, documentation or context
Align tasks with team goals and priorities, suggesting improvements where possible
Ask clarifying questions when requirements are unclear
Balance short-term delivery with long-term code health
Join discussions on solution design and trade-offs
Use the organisation's stack, platforms or standards effectively
Understand compliance, cost and performance considerations in your domain
Reinforce engineering values through daily work and interactions
Help newer engineers navigate team workflows and practices
Participate in engineering-wide activities like retros, internal talks or improvement initiatives
Engage respectfully with cross-functional collaborators such as Product and UX
Share technical insights or lessons learned in informal settings like demos or brown bags
Support newer engineers by explaining concepts, debugging strategies or team practices
