About the role
A hands-on technology role in the Software Engineering team within PTSG at Julius Baer, focused on fixing highly complex legacy system defects and building scalable Java-based solutions with modern frameworks and enterprise-grade tools. You will act as a technical influencer, driving engineering excellence across teams while keeping delivery aligned with business goals, regulatory standards and the bank's commitment to secure, reliable IT. It suits a very experienced Java developer who is strong in computer science fundamentals and comfortable working with wealth management systems.

Analyse and resolve highly complex legacy system defects
Explain highly technical issues to non-technical audiences
Influence and uplift the engineering practices of existing developers

Build a reputation as a technically strong problem solver across the organisation
Develop and deliver solutions using Java, EJB, Spring Boot, Oracle and Kafka streaming
Translate business and system requirements into scalable, stable technical solutions
Ensure code, security and performance meet bank standards
Work with Wealth Management systems such as Triple'A Plus and E-Assets
Analyse, design, code and implement complex custom-built applications
Collaborate with the team using Agile methods such as Scrum and Extreme Programming
Follow practices like Test-Driven Development and continuous integration
Investigate and resolve production issues to keep the production environment stable
Work closely with finance, business change engineers and project managers on IT delivery
Analyse requirements, estimate effort, plan timelines and manage progress
Build strong project teams and maintain clear communication on project status
Drive and review technical and architectural design, enforce guidelines and challenge the status quo
Identify and manage risks and issues, driving stakeholders to deliver on time and to quality standards
Demonstrate honesty, integrity, due care, fair dealing, conflict of interest management, competence and continuous development, and comply with applicable laws and regulations

Exposure to Wealth Management systems (Triple'A Plus, E-Assets)
Agile working environment using Scrum and/or Extreme Programming

Requirements
At least 10 years of development experience in Core Java and Java EE
At least 3 years in the financial domain
At least 2 years following Test-Driven Development
Core Java 8+ and JUnit
Strong computer science knowledge: algorithms, data structures, object-oriented design
Able to write acceptance tests
