Assistant Curator/Curator, Elephant (2 Years Contract)

About the role

You will be in charge of the general management of an assigned animal collection, ensuring the highest standards of animal care and welfare. You will propose and implement the institutional collection plan, liaise with other zoos and species coordinators, and work closely with Veterinary Services. You will also oversee zoological operations for the section, including team management, budgeting, and the design and construction of exhibits. Additionally, you will conduct and supervise animal care research and breeding programmes, and present findings at meetings and conferences.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Zoology, Animal Sciences or equivalent
• Minimum 8 years of experience managing a team of professionals in a zoological setting
• Interest and expertise in Biology/Zoology and captive management of diverse species
• Knowledge of zoo animal welfare and behavioural husbandry
• Strong organisational skills and document control
• Proven ability to manage and motivate staff
