About the role

You will own the technical architecture for TradeNet, Singapore's national trade permit platform, as it is rebuilt from a legacy monolith into a cloud-native system. You will define service decomposition, data architecture, API contracts and infrastructure patterns, and make binding technical decisions across product squads. You will lead legacy modernisation, reconstruct undocumented business logic, and design for resilience in a system that cannot go down. You will also pioneer AI-assisted engineering practices and mentor senior engineers, leading through technical credibility rather than managerial authority.

Requirements

At least 12 years of hands-on software engineering experience
Significant experience as a principal/staff engineer or architect on large-scale systems
Experience as overall technical lead across multiple teams (5+ teams, 40+ engineers)
Deep experience with legacy modernisation and decomposing monoliths
Strong cloud-native architecture background (service design, event-driven systems, API-first, infrastructure-as-code)
Hands-on proficiency in a modern backend stack (e.g., Java/JVM, Kotlin, PostgreSQL)
