About the role

A contract role supporting Dietitians in delivering nutrition care within a hospital dietetics department. You will work under the direct supervision of a Dietitian, within an agreed scope of practice, to help maintain the standards and quality of dietetic services. It suits someone with a nutrition or food science background who is service oriented and enjoys working as part of a team.

What you'll do

Support nurses in carrying out nutrition screening, guided by Dietitians
Prepare resources and equipment for nutrition assessment and help with anthropometric measurements such as handgrip strength, skinfold or mid-upper arm circumference
Help collect relevant background information from patients, family members or caregivers

Support Dietitians in giving basic nutrition therapy advice to patients, family or caregivers

Run physical or virtual nutrition workshops after training by Dietitians

Deliver nutrition activities such as basic cooking demonstrations, talks or games to the public or staff, with guidance from Dietitians

Help update departmental resources

Conduct nutrient analysis of menus, recipes and food diaries using nutrient analysis software, with guidance from Dietitians

Assist in quality improvement initiatives and audits with Nursing and other stakeholders to improve nutrition care delivery

Take part in continuing professional development and competency training as required

Carry out routine audits of food replicas and equipment to ensure cleanliness

Keep electronic, online education and social media materials well organised and updated with accurate information

Liaise with representatives from healthcare and food companies to arrange product updates and taste trials, after discussion with the Head of Department

Help update departmental policies and work instructions documenting nutrition care practices and processes

Attend departmental meetings and take minutes as required

Requirements

Minimum Diploma in Food Science, Nutrition, Food Service or equivalent
Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and nutrient analysis software
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Service oriented and a good team player
Positive work attitude and strong work ethics
