About the role

This senior underwriting role supports the Bermuda High Net Worth business from the Singapore group head office. You will handle complex, high-value life insurance cases end to end, covering medical, financial and customer due diligence assessments. It suits an experienced life underwriter who can guide junior colleagues and work with reinsurers and distribution partners.

What you'll do

Manage and complete end-to-end underwriting assessments for Bermuda-based policies within assigned authority limits
Underwrite complex HNW and UHNW cases, including multi-jurisdictional structures and large sum assured policies
Carry out medical and financial underwriting, covering source of wealth or funds, insurable interest and complex ownership structures

Review medical evidence such as APS, labs and specialist reports, and decide appropriate underwriting outcomes

Define and manage evidence and requirements strategies for complex cases

Ensure decisions are consistent, well documented and aligned with underwriting guidelines and relevant regulations

Support claims adjudication, including reviewing underwriting decisions at claim stage

Assess post-issuance changes and keep them aligned with underwriting standards

Identify and escalate potential underwriting risks, including anti-selection and fraud indicators

Support portfolio performance monitoring by reviewing prepared reports on metrics such as loss ratio and expense ratio, drawing insights and proposing remedial actions for CUO review

Manage the case pipeline to meet turnaround time and service standards

Partner with distribution teams, brokers and case managers on complex case structuring

Communicate underwriting decisions clearly and professionally

Provide guidance and support to junior underwriters on complex case handling

Contribute to knowledge sharing and continuous improvement of underwriting practices

Requirements

University graduate, preferably in Business, Risk Management, Actuarial Science or a related discipline
8 to 15 years of life underwriting experience
At least 4 years of exposure to HNW or large case underwriting
Professional qualification in Life Insurance such as FLMI or ALU
Solid experience dealing with reinsurers, compliance, legal and distribution teams including agency, bancassurance and brokerage
Proficient in English, both verbal and written
