Engineering Manager, Data & AI (National Environment Agency)

About the role

You will set the technical direction and processes for one or more engineering teams, and drive the design, implementation and delivery of the products your team owns. You will define the team's engineering vision and strategy, create long-term technical roadmaps, and work with stakeholders to prioritise and deliver the product vision. You will also mentor and coach engineers, support their performance and career growth, and help with recruitment for senior hires. You will work with cross-functional partners to build quality, reliability and security practices, and establish tools and practices that strengthen engineering culture.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of software development experience
• At least 2 years of experience coaching and developing engineers
• Experience with large, high-availability systems at scale
• Hands-on across the technology stack, including infrastructure, front end, back end, performance and data
• Experience building end-to-end systems with UIs, APIs, backends and databases
• Familiar with Agile, modular design, TDD, continuous integration, pair programming and infrastructure automation
