About the role
The Next Generation Programme Office Strategy branch is hiring platform engineers to support the Next Generation Air Navigation System. You will join a team that builds and runs either cloud or on-premises infrastructure and platform services, depending on deployment needs. This role suits adaptable engineers who enjoy best practices, collaboration and picking up new technology.
What you'll do
Architect, implement and maintain platform solutions for safety-critical applications, meeting industry standards for reliability, availability and performance in cloud or on-premises settings.
Manage cloud-native technologies and services such as AWS and Azure, covering compute, storage, networking and managed services, or handle on-premises infrastructure including virtualisation platforms, bare metal servers and traditional networking.
Build infrastructure automation with Infrastructure as Code tools and configuration management systems for consistent, repeatable deployments.
Design and run containerised environments using container orchestration platforms and related ecosystem tools for application deployment and scaling.
Work with software developers, architects and other stakeholders to design, implement and deploy scalable platform solutions, and may also carry out Site Reliability Engineering duties.
Set up monitoring, logging and alerting solutions to track platform health, performance and early issue detection.
Apply security best practices, put security controls in place and meet regulatory requirements for aviation systems.
Maintain and optimise data pipeline infrastructure, streaming platforms and analytics workloads as a secondary responsibility.
Carry out platform deployment, integration testing and validation in production environments.
Proactively find and fix infrastructure, performance and reliability issues across development and production.
Keep thorough documentation for infrastructure, processes and operational procedures to support knowledge transfer and compliance.

Appointment designation will match your relevant work experience.
Successful candidates get a 3-year contract initially, with possible placement on permanent tenure or contract renewal.
Requirements
Trained in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or equivalent
Platform engineering and infrastructure management experience in cloud or on-premises environments
Strong knowledge of cloud-native architectures and microservices patterns, or traditional infrastructure patterns and distributed systems design
Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
Experience with container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes, Docker Swarm or OpenShift
Experience with package management and deployment tools such as Helm or Kustomize
