About the role

This role sits with the team building and running the on-premises private cloud network across several government data centres. You will deliver production network services hands-on while helping to grow SRE practices such as observability, incident response and reliability engineering. It suits a network engineer who enjoys both deep technical work and improving how systems stay reliable.

What you'll do

Design, build and run spine-leaf network topology covering eBGP, ECMP, MLAG, multi-plane VRF architecture, routers, switches, firewalls, DNS, NTP, OpenShift networking (OVN-Kubernetes, ingress, load balancers), DWDM equipment, L3 and L2 EVPN, and telco circuits linking sites.

Put in place network security zones, firewall policies, ACLs, traffic segmentation, CI/CD processes and out-of-band zones for traceability, accountability and quick rollback.

Automate network configuration with Ansible, Python and/or infrastructure-as-code, and connect it to platforms and dashboards.

Set up network observability, SLIs, SLOs, monitoring, alerting and capacity planning, write runbooks, and take part in SRE on-call rotation, incident response and blameless postmortems.
