About the role

This role sits with a joint research team from the Department of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Built Environment, working on tropical timber and bamboo for mass engineered timber products suited to the Tropics. It is a good fit for a researcher with a Master's degree or higher who enjoys both hands-on prototyping and academic writing. You will support the project's technical studies and its day-to-day administration.

What you'll do

Carry out prototyping and adhesive testing
Work on timber and bamboo grading, plus lamellar strength determination and classification guidelines
Study product sizes and configurations and the design data and properties for Glulam, CLT and Laminated Bamboo Lumber (LBL)
Look into factory production control and audit practices and requirements
Help with technical studies on various timber, non-timber and MET products
Help prepare manuscripts for academic journals, patent filings and conference presentations
Support the PI and Co-PIs with general administrative management of the research project

Requirements

Master's degree or higher in MET Product Development, Timber Engineering or a related discipline
At least 2 years of relevant work experience with good knowledge and skills in the field
Demonstrated ability to conduct and publish high-quality research
Strong analytical, writing and communication skills in English, able to produce clear reports and recommendations
Strong project execution skills, including procurement and logistics coordination
At least 1 year of experience with MET product development
