About the role

This role leads the data governance team at SLA, based at Revenue House, and drives enterprise-wide policies, frameworks and practices so data is managed securely and effectively as a strategic asset. It suits an experienced data governance professional who can set direction, work across business, IT, cybersecurity, legal and audit teams, and translate whole-of-government requirements into practical controls.

What you'll do

Lead the data governance team, set priorities and oversee delivery of SLA's data governance workplan and initiatives.
Develop, implement and monitor policies, standards and processes across the data lifecycle, covering ownership and stewardship, classification, quality, access, sharing, retention, protection and disposal.

Translate Whole-of-Government data management and security requirements into practical organisational controls and operating practices.

Work with business units, data owners, IT, cybersecurity, legal and audit teams to embed data governance requirements into ICT systems, projects and business processes.

Oversee data incident management, including response coordination, reporting, remediation and follow-up actions to prevent recurrence.

Plan and implement capability-building, engagement and outreach programmes to strengthen data literacy, stewardship and security awareness across SLA.

Requirements

Degree in Data or Information Management, Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology or a related discipline
At least five years of relevant experience in data governance, data management, data protection, data security or related areas
Preferably experience leading a team or cross-functional initiatives
Good understanding of data governance principles and practices, including data stewardship, data quality, classification, sharing, access controls and lifecycle management
Knowledge of personal data protection requirements and responsible data use
Understanding of how data policies and controls relate to ICT systems, cloud platforms, cybersecurity, analytics and AI initiatives
