About the role
This is a two-year contract engineering position with the School of Engineering, focused on additive manufacturing and design work. You will join a multidisciplinary environment that includes scientists, engineers, researchers and students, and the role suits an experienced design or manufacturing engineer who enjoys both hands-on technical work and mentoring others.
What you'll do
Use CAD tools such as Creo, SolidWorks and Siemens NX to conceptualise, design and optimise components and systems that meet performance, quality, manufacturability and cost goals.
Design and develop engineering solutions for projects, especially in additive manufacturing, delivering to project requirements and timelines.
Apply engineering principles and design methods to solve technical challenges, focusing on functionality, reliability and manufacturability.
Work with multidisciplinary teams, including scientists, engineers and procurement stakeholders across centres, to support product development and project execution.
Provide technical guidance and share knowledge with junior engineers, researchers and students.
Assess emerging design methods, materials and manufacturing technologies to improve engineering outcomes and operational efficiency.
Support research and development work such as prototyping, testing, validation and design optimisation.
Supervise and mentor students on research and development projects, supporting their technical learning.
Contribute technical expertise to grant applications, research proposals, consultancy projects and industry-funded initiatives.
Support engagement with industry partners and stakeholders in project discussions, technology transfer and collaboration.
Ensure compliance with engineering standards, safety requirements, quality systems and regulatory guidelines across the design and development life cycle.
Prepare technical reports, project documentation, presentations and other engineering deliverables.

Requirements
Qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Product Design or a related discipline
At least 5 years of relevant experience in engineering design, product development or advanced manufacturing
Proficiency in CAD software such as Creo, SolidWorks, Siemens NX or equivalent design tools
Strong knowledge and practical experience in Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) principles and methodologies
Good analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop practical engineering solutions and support process improvements
Able to manage assigned projects independently and deliver within established timelines and quality standards
