Senior / Genetic Counsellor

About the role

You will join the Cancer Genetic Service in the Division of Medical Oncology, providing pre- and post-test genetic counselling for patients referred for hereditary cancer syndromes. Your duties include assessing family history, using validated risk models to calculate cancer risks, and explaining hereditary conditions and risk management options. You will help patients manage pre-test concerns such as ethical, social and legal implications of genetic testing, and provide result interpretation and referrals during post-counselling. You will also handle case management, document visits and test results, and coordinate genetic tests with laboratories. In addition, you will prepare reports for Consultants, provide genetic education and supervision to trainees and medical professionals, and take part in cancer genetics research projects.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Genetic Counselling or equivalent
• Minimum 2 to 4 years of relevant working experience
• Experience in a cancer genetics service preferred
• Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills
• Able to work autonomously and as a good team player
• Evidence-based decisiveness and empathy-driven counselling techniques
