About the role

This role sits with the Technology Centre for Offshore and Marine, Singapore, focusing on advancing ocean and coastal modelling capabilities. You will be a senior member of research teams working on metocean forecasting and prediction projects. It suits a PhD-qualified specialist in oceanography, ocean engineering or coastal engineering who can lead projects and collaborate with stakeholders.

What you'll do

Lead the development of high-resolution coastal models for regional and local waters using DELFT3D-FM or MIKE
Lead the development of high-resolution ocean circulation models for regional waters using NEMO
Develop tools, techniques and methodologies such as data assimilation, data-driven models and Bayesian networks

Serve as a senior member of research teams on projects developing models for forecasting and prediction of the metocean environment

Manage project tasks and produce deliverables within agreed parameters, ensuring delivery on time, within scope and within budget

Develop detailed project plans to monitor and track progress and performance, analysing completion of short- and long-term goals

Develop leadership skills and review other colleagues' work as requested

Develop comprehensive project plans to share with other staff members

Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation

Report and escalate to management as needed

Contribute to proposals for new grants and projects by estimating time requirements and developing scopes of work

Assist in defining project scope and objectives with relevant stakeholders, ensuring technical feasibility

Actively seek to ensure satisfaction of collaborators and stakeholders and generate new opportunities for TCOMS

Attend training as required to maintain proficiency

Carry out any other duties as assigned

Requirements

PhD from a reputable university in Oceanography, Ocean Engineering, Coastal Engineering or a related discipline
Working knowledge of oceanography, ocean modelling and hydrodynamics
Experience using DELFT3D-FM and other open-source models for coastal modelling
Experience using NEMO and other open-source models for ocean circulation modelling
Knowledge of sensing, data analytics or machine learning is an advantage
Good interpersonal and communication skills
