About the role

GovTech is hiring software engineers to build AI-enabled products and shared platform capabilities for the National Environment Agency. You will work in a product-led, platform-amplified team that turns ambiguous operational problems into reliable, policy-sensitive AI systems used by real users. This suits engineers who want to build public-good AI at national scale and who take ownership from brief to production.

What you'll do

Design, build, test, deploy, and operate AI-enabled products and platform components across NEA.
Work on LLM integration, agentic workflows, evaluation harnesses, observability, guardrails, model access, retrieval and memory patterns, and multimodal AI use cases.

Turn ambiguous operations problems into maintainable software with clear success metrics.

Build production features such as automation, tools, assistants, and deterministic and agentic workflows.

Create reusable engineering patterns including templates, playbooks, test harnesses, and reference implementations.

Work closely with product managers, designers, data scientists, governance colleagues, and business owners.

Use AI coding and development tools to speed up delivery while keeping human accountability for design and quality.

Take part in design reviews, code reviews, incident response, and technical decision-making.

Push for root-cause fixes rather than surface-level patches.

Good to know

Flexible work arrangements are available, subject to the job role.
Benefits follow a total rewards approach and include leave benefits and employee wellness programs.
In the first 6 months, success means shipping meaningful production work in at least one product or platform area, raising the team's engineering quality bar, and helping turn one-off AI delivery into reusable capability.

Requirements

At least 3 years of relevant working experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, or software engineering
Completed at least one hands-on AI development and deployment project end to end
Strong software engineering fundamentals: system design, testing, version control, CI/CD, observability, security, and maintainable code
Good engineering judgement and ability to explain trade-offs clearly
Comfort with ambiguity and ability to turn unclear needs into a working product shape
Appetite for AI-native engineering such as LLM applications, evaluation, agentic workflows, RAG/memory, multimodal models, or AI-assisted development

Benefits

Leave benefits to meet work-life needs
Employee wellness programs
Flexible work arrangements, subject to job role
Learning and development opportunities all year round
