About the role
You will assist the Operations Engineer in keeping day-to-day plant activities running smoothly at a Waste-to-Energy facility. The role suits someone with a technical engineering background who is comfortable in a plant environment and committed to shift work. You will help oversee boilers, turbo-generators and flue gas treatment systems.
What you'll do
Perform routine checks and testing on plant equipment and raise job cards correctly
Track plant parameters and adjust or troubleshoot through DCS or on site to keep temperature, pressure and flue gas emissions within limits

Manage boiler water condition and level, including monitoring and controlling water use
Carry out equipment switch-overs such as feed water pumps, flue gas treatment compartments and chemical dosing silos
Optimise refuse incineration throughput based on operating conditions
Ensure chemicals and consumables are used optimally
Record and document changes in work procedures accurately according to plant ISO and quality management standards
Update plant status and report equipment failures or issues promptly to your superior
Handle incidents properly with minimal disruption and document them
Enforce the Permit-to-Work system with risk assessment, and administer PTW and LOTO
Assist in safe isolation and normalisation of equipment using plant P&ID drawings
Support the Operations Engineer in managing Central Control Room, weighbridge, water and wastewater treatment plant, overhaul, reception hall and bunker management activities
Resolve technical issues related to boilers, turbo-generators, flue gas treatment and their auxiliaries
Keep turbo-generators and associated common equipment running smoothly and efficiently
Work with the Maintenance team on boiler and turbo-generator overhauls and ad hoc tasks
Maintain a safety mindset and take part in safety initiatives and events
Contribute to improvement and optimisation projects
Liaise with contractors on operations and solid waste management matters
Supervise refuse and ash crane operations and ash-handling work done by contractors
Ensure contractors follow in-house rules and HSE protocol, with adequate supervision and safe work practices
Carry out any other ad-hoc duties assigned by your supervisor or plant management
Good to know
12-hour shift work is required
You may need to provide support on off days or rest days when required
This is a 2-year contract position
Training will be arranged for those without HAZMAT, First Aid, Incident Management, Work-at-Height or Confined Space training
Requirements
At least a Higher NITEC in Mechanical, Chemical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent
Working knowledge of plant equipment principles and mechanics and DCS functions
Class 2 Boiler Attendant Certificate preferred but not mandatory
Preferably trained in HAZMAT, First Aid, Incident Management, Work-at-Height or Confined Space; training can be provided
Strong safety mindset and can-do attitude
Meticulous with good interpersonal and communication skills
