About the role
Visa is hiring a Senior Data Engineer to build and run data and software platforms that power intelligent digital experiences and AI-driven solutions. You will work alongside product managers, architects, software engineers, data scientists, cybersecurity partners and business stakeholders to turn requirements into secure, reliable, production-ready capabilities. This suits an engineer with solid data and software fundamentals plus hands-on experience applying Generative AI and agentic technologies to enterprise use cases.
What you'll do
Design, develop and maintain scalable data platforms, pipelines, APIs, integrations and backend services for Digital Marketing and Engagement solutions
Build and operate secure, resilient, observable systems for real-time, streaming and batch workloads
Develop reusable frameworks, services and technical accelerators that lift platform capability and engineering efficiency
Work with product, engineering, architecture and business stakeholders to deliver technical solutions
Build and integrate GenAI-powered applications, AI agents and intelligent workflows for automation, personalization, insight generation and productivity
Implement agentic architectures using retrieval, tool calling, workflow orchestration, memory and human-in-the-loop patterns
Develop integrations with enterprise systems, APIs, data sources and AI platforms using protocols such as MCP
Evaluate and improve AI solution quality, reliability, safety and effectiveness through testing, monitoring and feedback
Design guardrails, governance controls and security mechanisms for AI applications and agents
Mitigate risks such as prompt injection, unauthorized data access, unsafe tool usage, hallucinations and policy violations
Optimize token usage, model selection, latency, throughput and operational costs
Implement monitoring, observability, telemetry and evaluation frameworks for enterprise-grade AI operations
Use AI-assisted development tools, coding agents and intelligent engineering platforms across the software development lifecycle
Validate AI-generated artifacts for correctness, maintainability, security, compliance and production readiness
Drive adoption of autonomous coding, automated testing, AI-assisted troubleshooting and intelligent delivery workflows
Keep current with emerging technologies and trends in data engineering, Generative AI and agentic systems

At least 3 days in office per week, with exact days confirmed by your hiring manager
Requirements
2+ years relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 5+ years relevant experience
Strong programming skills in Java, Python or similar
Experience building scalable data platforms, APIs, microservices and cloud-native applications
Experience with distributed systems, event-driven architectures and streaming technologies such as Kafka
Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, observability and production support
Understanding of data engineering, integration, governance and platform architecture
