About the role

This role sits within the HR support team at Hotel Stripes Singapore Chinatown, an Autograph Collection lifestyle property in the Chinatown area. You will help run the day-to-day work of the HR office, covering recruitment, compensation, training and development, while making sure employees get the support they need and the property stays compliant with laws and operating procedures. It suits someone with prior HR or management operations experience who is comfortable working closely with department managers.

What you'll do

  • Support the interviewing and hiring of HR team members with the right skills
  • Build and keep up contact with external recruitment sources
  • Attend job fairs and document outreach efforts under HR standard operating procedures
  • Network with local organisations such as hotel associations and peers to source candidates
  • Oversee and monitor how candidates are identified and selected
  • Advise property managers on selection procedures
  • Work with vendor partners so job advertisements reach a diverse candidate pool
  • Carry out quality control on candidate identification and selection
  • Handle unemployment claims with the service provider, check reports for accuracy and fix errors
  • Prepare, audit and send unemployment claim activity reports to property management
  • Attend unemployment hearings so the property is properly represented
  • Make sure the department has resources on hand to administer employee benefits
  • Support a departmental orientation programme so new hires get the right training
  • Ensure employees are cross-trained to support daily operations
  • Use on-the-job training tools, supervise ongoing training initiatives and conduct training when needed
  • Coordinate and facilitate new hire orientation to create a positive first impression and highlight guest service culture
  • Ensure all new hires attend and leaders take part in training programmes
  • Work with the management team so departmental orientation processes are in place
  • Help maintain effective employee communication channels, including daily communications and property-wide meetings
  • Review progressive discipline documentation for accuracy and consistency, and decide on appropriate action
  • Use an open door policy to acknowledge employee problems or concerns promptly
  • Refer employee issues to the Department Manager or escalate to the Director of Human Resources or Multi-Property Director of Human Resources
  • Partner with Loss Prevention on employee accident investigations when needed
  • Communicate performance expectations in line with each position's job description
  • Ensure employee files hold required employment paperwork, performance management and compensation documentation, kept secure for the required period
  • Ensure compliance with procedures for accessing, reviewing and auditing employee files and with the Privacy Act
  • Keep medical records in a separate, secure and confidential file
  • Facilitate random, reasonable belief and post-accident drug test

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED with 3 years experience in human resources, management operations or a related professional area, OR a 2-year degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related major with 1 year experience in human resources, management operations or a related professional area
