About the role

This contract role supports a cytogenetics laboratory, carrying out diagnostic testing and related tasks so that internal and external customers receive a reliable service. It suits someone with a medical laboratory science diploma who is comfortable following strict protocols and working with senior colleagues.

What you'll do

Receive laboratory specimens and turn away those not suitable for analysis
Use the Laboratory Information System for tasks like result queries, order entry and result entry
Carry out waived and moderate complexity tests following laboratory protocols
Inform the right laboratory staff about critical values

Report adverse incidents to a senior team member

Prepare reagents and materials needing special handling so results stay reliable

Handle and resolve customer queries

Do preventive maintenance on laboratory instruments and flag malfunctions to the right staff

Flag when test kits, reagents or other supplies need re-ordering

Perform shift duties when required

Keep up to date with new instruments, techniques and procedures through workshops, seminars and in-service classes

Follow the instructions of senior staff on work procedures and duties

Keep to good laboratory practice under the College of American Pathologists Laboratory Accreditation Programme and Singapore regulators such as the Medical Audit & Accreditation Unit

Follow the Laboratory Safety Manual

Follow DLM Workplace Etiquette in line with NUHS Core Values

Assess new laboratory test methods

Show laboratory procedures to trainees and new staff

Guide laboratory technicians, clerical staff and health attendants when needed

Help with routine laboratory admin such as filing and processing delivery orders and invoices

Take on other duties assigned by the supervisor

Requirements

Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science
Preferably 1–2 years of clinical laboratory experience
Good laboratory skills
Good general health and no colour blindness
Basic computer skills
Good initiative and attitude
