What you'll do

• Prepare special meals and substitute items as needed
• Control the temperature of ovens, broilers, grills and roasters
• Move food from freezer storage to the refrigerator to thaw
• Ensure correct portioning, plating arrangement and garnish
• Keep food logs up to date
• Check the quality and quantity of food being prepared
• Ask for help during busy service periods
• Tell the Chef about excess food so it can be used in daily specials
• Let food and beverage service staff know about menu specials and items that are out of stock
• Prepare and cook food following recipes, quality standards, presentation standards and the food preparation checklist, including cold foods
• Help management with hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, counselling, disciplining and motivating employees, and act as a role model
• Follow company safety and security policies, report maintenance needs, accidents, injuries and unsafe conditions to the manager, and complete safety training and certifications
• Keep uniform and personal appearance clean and professional, maintain confidentiality of proprietary information and protect company assets
• Anticipate and address guests' service needs and speak clearly and professionally
• Build positive working relationships, support the team in reaching common goals and respond appropriately to colleagues' concerns
• Meet quality expectations and standards
• Stand, sit or walk for long periods, reach overhead and below the knees, and bend, twist, pull and stoop
• Move, lift, carry, push, pull and place objects weighing up to 25 pounds without assistance
• Carry out other reasonable job duties requested by supervisors
