About the role

This role supports a research study on consumer beverage choices, run by the Health Services Research & Population Health Department at Outram Campus. You will join a field team of interviewers who approach members of the public at places like malls, transit hubs and campuses to take part in a short tablet-based shopping task and survey. It suits someone who is comfortable starting conversations with strangers, follows set procedures closely, and can commit around 15 hours a week during the field period.

What you'll do

Approach passersby at assigned high-traffic venues and invite them to join the study using a set script
Explain the study briefly and clearly, and answer basic questions without influencing how people respond
Screen interested people for eligibility using a tablet questionnaire and apply the inclusion and exclusion rules correctly
Carry out informed consent procedures so participants understand that taking part is voluntary, that their information stays confidential, and that they can withdraw
Guide participants through the tablet-based food choice task and the short surveys before and after it, keeping to the study protocol
Check that data is complete and meets quality standards, such as required fields being filled in and time stamps recorded, before finishing each session

Requirements

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable approaching the public respectfully
Fluent in English
Reliable and punctual, able to commit around 15 hours per week for the field period
Comfortable using a tablet (iPad, Android or Windows) and following step-by-step protocols
High attention to detail and able to follow scripts, eligibility rules and data-entry checks
Professional conduct and sensitivity when working with diverse participants
