Experience Some experience About the role This role involves carrying out laboratory procedures and related tasks to deliver a quality laboratory service to both internal and external customers. You will work within a hospital laboratory team handling specimen receipt, testing and dispatch. It suits someone with a medical laboratory science background who is service oriented and works well in a team.
What you'll do Receive laboratory specimens via the pneumatic tube system and over the counter, and reject unsuitable samples Know someone for this? Share it
Use the Laboratory Information System for order entry, sample receipt, result query and result entry
Sort specimens into collection bins by section and dispatch them to the correct benches, including simple processing
Manage specimen movement for in-house and send-out tests, packing send-outs according to the test catalogue
Handle customer enquiries at reception and escalate unclear cases to suitable personnel
Perform laboratory tests following laboratory protocols
Alert appropriate personnel to critical values
Carry out preventive maintenance on laboratory instruments and report malfunctions
Flag when test kits, reagents or other supplies need re-ordering
Report adverse incidents to senior staff
Perform shift duties as required
Keep up to date with new instrumentation, techniques and procedures through workshops, seminars and in-service education
Follow good laboratory practice under the College of American Pathologist Accreditation Programme and Singapore regulatory agencies
Resolve customer queries
Carry out instructions from senior staff on work procedures and duties
Comply with the Laboratory Safety Manual and DLM Workplace Etiquette in line with NUHS Core Values
Perform and interpret QC results and take corrective action
Conduct in-service and continuing education classes
Help with staff roster planning when required
Coach trainees and new staff when assigned
Assist in evaluating new laboratory methodologies
Undertake back-up procedures during emergencies such as downtime
Take part in routine laboratory administrative work such as filing, processing delivery orders and invoices
Assist with drafting and updating laboratory protocols
Contribute to project teams as required Good to know Shift duties are required Only Singapore Citizens and Singapore Permanent Residents may apply Requirements BSc or equivalent in Medical Laboratory Science Preferably 1 to 2 years of relevant clinical laboratory experience Good laboratory skills Good general health and no colour blindness Basic computer literacy and proficiency with laboratory information systems Service oriented and customer focused Apply on the company website
