About the role
You will support the daily running of a clinical laboratory under NUHS Diagnostics, carrying out phlebotomy, ECG, spirometry and various laboratory tests. The role suits a detail-oriented technologist who can work independently in a fast-paced clinical setting and communicate well with patients, doctors and colleagues.
Follow laboratory standard operating procedures for every procedure
Perform phlebotomy, electrocardiogram and spirometry accurately and professionally
Conduct point-of-care testing such as prothrombin time and glucose, plus clinical tests including urinalysis, haematology, biochemistry and microscopy independently
Handle specimen identification, processing and storage according to good laboratory practices
Run and verify quality control on analysers before patient sampling
Use the Laboratory Information System for result entry, validation and tracking outstanding tests
Make sure test results given to clinicians are accurate and reliable
Keep analysers and equipment functioning and well maintained
Inform the medical technologist or lab in charge of instrument faults and arrange servicing with BME or the vendor
Tell the inventory person when reagents and supplies are running low
Perform and record internal and external quality controls and calibrations, troubleshooting outliers per work instructions
Report critical values to the relevant personnel within 30 minutes
Keep daily maintenance and QC records current
Comply with hand hygiene, workplace safety, IPSG, ISO and other regulatory and accreditation requirements
Provide prompt, courteous service to internal and external customers in person or over the phone
Report adverse incidents and workflow anomalies to your supervisor
Follow NUHS personal data protection and internet/intranet cybersecurity guidelines
Take on other duties delegated by your supervisor or lead laboratory

Requirements
Recognised Diploma in Biomedical Science, Clinical Laboratory Science or a relevant field
At least 1-3 years of experience in a laboratory environment and/or relevant phlebotomy experience preferred
Good verbal and written communication skills
Ability to communicate in vernacular languages is an added advantage
Able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
Team player with good interpersonal skills
