About the role
Join the team behind the platforms that thousands of government developers use daily, spanning developer portals, CLIs, AI-assisted development, CI/CD orchestration and container-based deployment tooling. You will also help build a central product marketplace where agencies can discover, evaluate, subscribe to and operate government tech products from one place. This suits an engineer who enjoys platform product thinking, frontend and backend work, developer experience and production engineering, and who wants to use AI-assisted workflows to ship faster without losing quality.
What you'll do
Design developer-facing abstractions over cloud-native services, CI/CD tooling, observability and security controls, as well as marketplace services such as billing and subscriptions
Develop platform services, APIs, CLIs, infrastructure automation and internal tooling that make complex infrastructure easier and safer to use
Define stable interfaces, versioning approaches, error handling, testing strategies and documentation for platform components
Create a unified platform where users discover, evaluate, access and manage services, tools and applications through web interfaces, CLIs or MCPs
Design end-to-end workflows for user access management, self-service configuration, operational transparency and ongoing oversight
Build search, filtering and personalization features that help users find the right capabilities quickly
Provide standardized, ready-made capabilities such as access provisioning, activity tracking and UI embedding so teams can launch and integrate services faster
Design for high availability and resilience across platforms serving thousands of developers and agencies daily
Build observability into services, including monitors, alerts, SLOs and usage analytics
Achieve operational excellence through automated testing, deployment strategies, operational tooling and software automation
Build self-service platform workflows for developers and agencies
Produce clear documentation, onboarding flows and examples that lower the learning curve
Collaborate with UX and product to iterate on interfaces based on real usage
Use delivery signals and user feedback to identify friction and prioritize improvements
Work with stakeholders to understand integration, deployment and operations needs
Partner across platform engineering, product and design to shape APIs and experiences
Gather feedback from real usage and iteratively improve platform capabilities

Requirements
Able to build high-quality, secure software
Strong abstract thinking with solid debugging and reasoning skills
Communicates and collaborates well with engineers, policy officers, UX teams, cybersecurity specialists and partner agencies
Takes initiative to improve reliability and security
Growth mindset and willingness to share knowledge
Able to grasp business domain concepts and set technical direction at the right level of abstraction
