About the role

This role sits with the Technology Centre for Offshore and Marine, Singapore, contributing to research and development work carried out in the TCOMS laboratory. The position involves both hands-on physical experimentation and analytical research, and would suit an engineer with a background in civil, mechanical, marine or offshore engineering who enjoys working as part of a technical team.

What you'll do

Design scaled physical test models, including maritime vessels, offshore rigs, marine renewable platforms and aquaculture systems, for testing in the TCOMS Ocean Basin
Produce detailed design, production, assembly and as-built drawings of test models
Work with a team of engineers and technicians on model fabrication and modification, calibration, instrumentation and experimental setup
Improve how models' behaviour and response are measured through the use of suitable sensors
Document design processes, methodologies and results
Contribute to process improvements that raise the efficiency of research work
Conduct research in offshore hydrodynamics, coastal protection, and loads, motions and response analysis of marine and offshore platforms and floating structures
Study fluid-structure interactions
Collaborate with internal teams, affiliated research institutes and other stakeholders on proposal preparation and submission
Carry out any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree from a reputable university in Civil, Mechanical, Marine or Offshore Engineering, or a related discipline
Preferably around 3 years of relevant research or industry experience
Competent knowledge in areas such as offshore engineering, marine engineering, hydrodynamics or naval architecture
Familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Rhino or AutoCAD is an advantage
Familiarity with engineering tools such as WAMIT, SESAM or OrcaFlex is an advantage
Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, MATLAB or equivalent is an advantage
