About the role
This role sits in a research and development team focused on embedded software and firmware for hardware products. You will work alongside hardware engineers, software developers, quality assurance and product managers to bring reliable firmware features from concept through to validation. It suits an experienced firmware engineer who enjoys system-level thinking and cross-domain integration.
What you'll do
Design enhancements, updates and programming changes for firmware subsystems, including DSP, embedded code, EFI drivers, EFI applications and BIOS/UEFI.
Analyse designs and determine the coding, programming and integration work needed based on overall product architecture.
Write and execute testing plans, protocols and documentation, and resolve code issues within the application architecture.
Own end-to-end feature development from requirements definition through design, implementation, integration and validation across firmware layers.
Perform deep system-level debugging across hardware, firmware and software interfaces using logs, tracing and diagnostic tools.
Allocate resources for programming projects and design detailed plans to ensure firmware functions correctly.
Prepare and create instructional technical manuscripts for firmware operation.
Lead a project team of firmware engineers and internal and outsourced development partners to deliver reliable, cost-effective, high-quality solutions.
Communicate firmware design status, project progress and issue resolution to management and development partners.
Represent the firmware engineering team across all phases of larger, more complex development projects, from microarchitecture design through firmware architecture and development.
Work with architects, hardware engineers, software developers and product managers to define firmware requirements and specifications clearly.
Drive system architecture alignment across modules for scalability, reusability and maintainability across multiple programs.
Apply modern development practices such as CI/CD, automation and AI-assisted coding to improve efficiency and quality.
Keep up to date with industry trends and advancements in firmware technologies and recommend improvements.
Mentor junior engineers and promote technical excellence, coding best practices and knowledge sharing.
