About the role

Join the Coronavirus Lab within the Signature Research Programme in Emerging Infectious Diseases, where the team studies coronavirus–host interactions using organoids, CRISPR/Cas9 and single-cell omics. This full-time role blends hands-on research with laboratory management, so it suits someone who is organised, safety-conscious and keen to support impactful science. You will work under the Principal Investigator or their designate.

What you'll do

Plan, run and analyse experiments independently or alongside colleagues
Process, document and manage clinical samples, keeping accurate inventory and traceability
Record, monitor and report research findings with scientific rigour
Take part in team discussions, data interpretation and project planning
Oversee daily laboratory operations for efficiency, organisation and productivity
Develop, implement and update lab policies, SOPs and workflows
Carry out and maintain risk assessments, MSDS files and compliance documentation
Promote safety, biosafety and regulatory compliance, monitoring PPE use and hazardous material handling
Manage lab supply chain including reagents, consumables, equipment and inventory
Act as main liaison for lab communications such as audits, inspections and external vendors
Spot process improvement opportunities to optimise research and operations
Foster a collaborative, safe and supportive environment for all lab members

Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Life Sciences, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, Materials Engineering or a related field
Prior experience with laboratory techniques such as cell culture, molecular biology and biochemistry
Familiarity with biosafety practices
Proven expertise in laboratory management and operations
Strong understanding of safety regulations, risk assessment and compliance frameworks
Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, plus computer skills
