About the role
Join the kitchen team at Courtyard by Marriott Singapore Novena as a Commis I, preparing and cooking food to recipe and presentation standards. You will help keep food quality, portioning and safety on track during service, and support colleagues when things get busy. This role suits someone with solid kitchen experience who works well in a team.
What you'll do
Prepare special meals and substitute items
Regulate the temperature of ovens, broilers, grills and roasters

Move food from freezer storage to the refrigerator to thaw
Ensure correct portioning, arrangement and garnish
Keep food logs up to date
Monitor the quality and quantity of food prepared
Ask for help during busy periods
Tell the Chef about excess food so it can be used in daily specials
Let Food & Beverage service staff know about menu specials and items that are out of stock
Prepare and cook food following recipes, quality standards, presentation standards and the food preparation checklist, including cold foods
Help management with hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, counselling, disciplining and coaching employees, and act as a role model
Follow company safety and security policies, report maintenance needs, accidents, injuries and unsafe conditions to the manager, and complete safety training and certifications
Keep uniform and personal appearance clean and professional, maintain confidentiality of proprietary information and protect company assets
Anticipate and address guests' service needs and speak clearly and professionally
Build positive working relationships, support the team in reaching common goals and respond appropriately to colleagues' concerns
Meet quality expectations and standards
Stand, sit or walk for long periods, and reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling and stooping
Move, lift, carry, push, pull and place objects weighing up to 25 pounds without assistance
Carry out other reasonable job duties as requested by Supervisors

Requirements
Technical, trade or vocational school degree preferred
At least 3 years of related work experience
Able to stand, sit or walk for extended periods

Able to move, lift, carry, push, pull and place objects up to 25 pounds without assistance
No supervisory experience required
