About the role
This is a leadership position within WRB Tech, focused on developing people and building capability across front end (web and mobile) and back end technologies. You will define the operating model for the Chapter area and support capacity planning across Squads and hives. The role suits an experienced former practitioner who can lead, inspire and retain a network of technology practitioners.
What you'll do
Establish a catalogue of user interface components and drive standardisation of user interfaces.
Proactively identify reusable UI assets and create a delivery plan for them.
Ensure consistency in design elements and layouts across browsers, markets and devices.
Set up CI/CD pipelines for iOS, Android, HarmonyNext, web development and web content management, including associated processes.

Define technology strategy and roadmap for microservices, reusable APIs and their integration across WRB platforms and applications.
Provide inputs into technology evaluations and RFPs related to back-end development.
Establish a robust deployment topology to meet critical non-functional requirements such as zero downtime, blue-green deployments and graceful degradation during catastrophic failures.
Oversee the execution of functional standards and best practices.
Provide thought leadership on the craft and develop an extensive internal and external network of practitioners.
Create a strategy roadmap of technical work and drive technology convergence and simplification across the chapter area.
Evolve the craft towards improved automation, simplification and innovative use of latest market trends.
Scale practices and capabilities across multiple hives, including mobile and front end experience across the app.
Adopt and embed Change Delivery Standards throughout the product or service lifecycle.
Ensure roles, job descriptions and expectations are clearly set, and provide periodic feedback to chapter leads.
Establish capability development systems across the chapter area, measuring and tracking improvement of members and chapter leads.
Manage people and develop the capability of Chapter members.
Review metrics on capabilities and performance across all Chapters in the area, maintain an improvement backlog and drive continual improvement.
Manage capacity risk across the Chapter Area with regard to attrition and leave plans.
Ensure all artefacts and assurance deliverables meet required standards and policies (e.g., SCB Governance Standards, ESDLC, Corporate Group Plan).
Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct.
Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank.
Lead the Digital Experience team to achieve the outcomes set out in the Bank’s Conduct Principles.

Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience
14+ years of experience in backend development
Strong proficiency in at least one backend programming language and framework (e.g., Java/Spring, Python/Django)
Solid understanding of database management systems, including SQL and NoSQL databases
Expertise in performance engineering of distributed systems
Proficiency in Swift and/or Objective-C, with deep understanding of iOS SDK, Kotlin (Android) and frameworks
