About the role
This role sits within the Laboratory Medicine (Microbiology) team, where you will carry out diagnostic testing and related lab work to deliver a quality service to both internal and external customers. It suits a detail-oriented technologist who can juggle several tasks, work well in a team, and keep up with evolving lab methods and instruments.
What you'll do
Help receive lab specimens and, where needed, supervise this, turning away samples that cannot be analysed
Use the Laboratory Information System for order entry, result entry, collation, certification and queries
Carry out all procedures following laboratory protocols
Make sure critical values reach the right personnel
Handle queries raised by customers
Report adverse incidents to your supervisor
Run, document and interpret quality control results, taking corrective steps when needed
Do basic preventative upkeep of lab instruments and simple troubleshooting when they break down
Follow laboratory inventory management processes
Stay up to date on new instruments, techniques and procedures through workshops, seminars and in-service education
Conduct in-service and continuing education sessions
Help plan staff rosters when required
Work shift duties as required
Coach trainees and new staff on laboratory procedures
Follow the work instructions and duties given by senior staff
Carry out internal audits
Keep to good laboratory practice under the College of American Pathologists Laboratory Accreditation Programme and Singapore regulators such as the Medical Audit & Accreditation Unit
Meet all requirements of the Laboratory Safety Manual
Follow DLM Workplace Etiquette in line with NUHS Core Values
Help evaluate new laboratory test methodologies
Carry out back-up procedures during emergencies such as power loss or an information system crash
Take part in basic lab admin work such as filing and processing delivery orders and invoices
Help draft and update laboratory protocols when required
Join and contribute to project teams as required
Cover the duties of a Senior Medical Technologist when required
Take on any other duties assigned by your supervisor

Requirements
BSc or equivalent in Medical Laboratory Science
Preferably 1-2 years of clinical laboratory experience with good or excellent performance
Good laboratory skills
Good initiative and attitude
Good general health and no colour blindness
Able to multitask and prioritise workload within a team
