About the role

This role is in the breakfast kitchen of The Singapore EDITION, a hotel in the Orchard area. You will prepare and cook food to recipe and presentation standards, keep the kitchen running smoothly during busy periods, and work closely with the culinary and service teams. It suits someone with a few years of kitchen experience who is comfortable on their feet for long stretches.

Prepare special meals and substitute items
Regulate the temperature of ovens, broilers, grills and roasters
Move food from freezer storage to the refrigerator to thaw
Ensure correct portioning, arrangement and garnish
Keep food logs up to date
Monitor the quality and quantity of food prepared
Ask for help when things get busy
Tell the Chef about excess food so it can be used in daily specials
Let food and beverage service staff know about menu specials and items that are out of stock
Prepare and cook food following recipes, quality standards, presentation standards and the food preparation checklist, including cold foods
Help management with hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, counselling, disciplining and motivating staff, and act as a role model
Follow company safety and security policies, report maintenance needs, accidents, injuries and unsafe conditions to the manager, and complete safety training and certifications
Keep uniform and personal appearance clean and professional, keep proprietary information confidential and protect company assets
Anticipate and address guest service needs
Communicate clearly and professionally with others, build positive working relationships, support the team in reaching common goals and respond appropriately to colleagues' concerns
Meet quality expectations and standards
Stand, sit or walk for long periods
Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling and stooping
Move, lift, carry, push, pull and place objects weighing up to 25 pounds without help
Carry out other reasonable job duties as asked by supervisors

Requirements

Technical, trade or vocational school degree preferred
At least 3 years of related work experience
No supervisory experience required
Able to stand, sit or walk for extended periods
Able to reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling and stooping
Able to move, lift, carry, push, pull and place objects up to 25 pounds without assistance
