About the role
This role oversees daily production operations on a designated shift or unit within a chemical plant. You will lead a team of operators and technicians, ensuring work follows procedures, safety standards, quality specifications, schedules and cost targets. It suits someone with strong chemical process experience who can mentor a team and drive a safety-first culture.
What you'll do
Enforce no-deviation and stop-work authority policies across the shift team, escalating issues to the Production Manager when needed.
Stay trained and deeply understand the operations you oversee, including why processes are defined as they are.
Monitor key production parameters and check internal procedure compliance, stopping work and escalating if abnormalities appear.

Manage Production Technicians directly, confirming they are qualified and competent, and ensure training runs to plan.
Verify pre-startup safety reviews are completed and the safe work permit system is followed for all activities.
Lead the internal emergency response team, keeping it ready and coordinating emergency procedures.
Balance safety, quality, productivity, manpower, cost and morale in daily management.
Intervene on deviations, unsafe acts and abnormalities, and reinforce positive safety and quality behaviour.
Investigate root causes of quality, safety and reliability issues and lead troubleshooting with stakeholders.
Handle workforce planning, assignments, schedule management and inventory control for finished goods, raw materials and supplies.
Drive production KPIs and team priorities, including personal safety, process safety, quality, OEE and production cost.
Prioritise maintenance and shutdowns for the unit to limit schedule impact and improve reliability.
Keep operating documents such as SOPs and work instructions accurate, current and communicated to the team.
Flag documents that do not match actual manufacturing practice and drive correction through the proper validation process.
Coach and develop Production Technicians, oversee structured training for new staff and facilitate cross-training.
Build a culture of ownership, collaboration and decisive problem-solving within and between shifts.
Ensure no one works unsupervised until their training and qualification are formally documented and complete.

Rotating shifts may be required, with flexibility for schedule and shift changes based on operational needs.
At least a Diploma, preferably in Chemical Process Technology or equivalent.
Minimum 5+ years experience, including 2+ years in a leadership role, in process, production or project engineering, preferably in high purity specialty chemicals, food, nuclear, semiconductor or pharmaceutical plant operations.
Fluency in the subsidiary official language(s), including expert written and verbal English.
Comprehensive understanding of chemical processing systems.
