About the role

A research associate position in a biochemistry lab at a university medical school, working under an assistant professor within the Department of Biochemistry and the Healthy Longevity Translational Research Programme. The role centres on running the laboratory's operations and safety systems while also giving hands-on experimental support to the team's projects. It suits a life sciences or biochemistry master's graduate who enjoys lab management and is keen on ageing and chronic disease research.

What you'll do

Handle laboratory operations, including drafting, reviewing and revising risk assessments and SOPs
Track materials inventory, procurement and post-procurement processing
Oversee equipment maintenance and asset management

Run safety trainings and keep safety tools and housekeeping in order

Give administrative and experimental support to research projects

Work with other team members and arrange material transfers with collaborators

Monitor ordering needs and assign lab duties across the team

Carry out experimental validation using molecular biology, cell culture, enzymatic and metabolic assays for potential drug candidates

Support a PhD student closely in running the required experiments

Help with lab visits and audits or inspections as delegated by the PI

Remuneration is commensurate with qualifications and experience

Requirements

Master's degree with good results in life sciences, biochemistry or a related discipline
Passionate about lab safety, operations and management
Self-motivated and takes ownership of assignments
Proactively suggests solutions when obstacles arise
Able to work independently and as part of a team
Investigative mindset with attention to detail
