Software engineer resume tips for Singapore

  1. Put your main stack in the headline

Recruiters scan for languages and frameworks first. Three or four words in your headline tell them in a second whether to keep reading.

  2. Write what you built and what it changed

"Built X, which did Y" beats "worked on X". Speed, reliability, users or time saved are all good outcomes. Use real numbers only if you have them.

  3. Link your work

A GitHub profile, portfolio or live project helps, especially for fresh graduates. Make sure whatever you link is tidy and actually yours.

  4. Fresh graduate? Use projects and internships

Final-year projects, internships and hackathons count. Describe them like jobs: what you built, with what, and the result.

  5. Keep it to one or two pages

Singapore employers rarely need more. Older or unrelated roles can be one line each.

  6. Leave salary out

Do not put current or expected salary on your resume. Discuss it when the employer asks.

Common mistakes

  • A skills section with 30 technologies and no sign of which ones you know well.
  • Bullets that describe the team’s work, so it is unclear what you did.
  • A GitHub link to an empty or abandoned profile.
