Engineer resume tips for Singapore
Say your discipline and level up top
Your headline should say mechanical or electrical, and roughly how experienced you are. Hiring managers sort engineers quickly, and "Engineer" alone makes them guess.
Name the systems and software you really used
Chillers, AHUs, switchboards, PLCs, cleanroom equipment: be specific. The same goes for software. List what you could use on day one, not everything you once opened.
Mention the standards you worked to
If you designed or checked work to Singapore Standards, such as SS 638 for electrical installations or SS 553 for air-con and ventilation, say so. It shows you know how things are done here.
Licences and registrations belong near the top
An EMA Licensed Electrical Worker licence, or Professional Engineer registration with the PEB, matters a lot for some roles. If you are working towards one, you can say that too.
Show you take safety seriously
Risk assessments, permit-to-work, method statements and bizSAFE are part of daily work in Singapore. One line that shows you handled these well goes a long way.
Keep salary off the resume
Leave your current and expected salary out. Give a figure only when the application form asks for it, or at the interview.
Common mistakes
- Listing duties ("responsible for maintenance") instead of what changed because of you.
- A long project list on page three. Pick the four or five projects that best match the job.
- Every software you have ever touched, with no sense of which ones you are actually good at.
